How do you save a Strategy as a different name?

I miss "Save As". I no longer have that option under the File menu. I tried copying and renaming the strategy in Windows Explorer, but when I attempt to open the copied file in Wealth-Lab Pro, it just shows two Strategies with identical names.

There is a "Save As" option:

That's what it used to look like. Attached is what I currently have.

Hmm, and the Edit menu is grayed out. What if you switch to the Editor and retry from there?

Also, what has changed? Unconventional installation (network, pen drive), user account with limited rights, anything else?

The Edit menu works fine. I'm not sure why it was grayed out on the first screen shot.

I believe the File menu changed some time after 1/22/15, since I have a Strategy that has a creation date of 1/22/15 which I would have copied from an existing Strategy. I installed the Swarm Optimizer Addin on 1/23/15. (I had problems installing optimizer, because you hadn't included a file that it relied on.) I also see that there is a new version 2015.02 of MS123 PosSizer Library. I don't remember when I upgraded to Wealth-Lab Pro v. 6.8.

I relocated my Fidelity Data to an external USB drive with the Data Manager and relocated my Yahoo Data to the external drive with Link Shell Extension, but that was probably a couple of years ago, and everything has worked fine since then.

Neither extension updates nor Fidelity data relocation could've caused this.

"Save"/"Save As" are not displayed for non-Strategy type of windows (Home page, Strategy Monitor and many more). Are you using a saved default workspace? Could you open a New Main Workspace Window and retry from there.

If that does not change anything, the problem may be rooted in the unsupported data relocation you've made (long ago, I know) - or some other (unknown) change.

Opening a New Main Workspace didn't change anything. I'm not sure exactly what the solution was, but here's what I did to fix the problem:

I realized I had the same problem on my laptop, so I uninstalled Wealth-Lab Pro on my laptop, renamed >AppData>Roaming>Fidelity Investments>WealthLabPro>1.0.0.0>Data to Old Data, found an old download of Wealth-Lab Pro 6.6 and installed it. The installation created a new Data folder (without the symbolic links). Using that the File menu worked as expected.

I then upgraded to v6.8, and the File menu still worked. I then renamed the new and old Data folders, and the Save and Save As disappeared. I then copied Accounts.xml, Assemblies.wll, Markets.xml, StrategyMRU.txt, temp.html, WealthLabConfig.txt and WhatsNew.htm from the new Data folder to the old Data folder (with the symbolic links) and the File menu works as expected.

Can you give me any guidance as to which of those files might have been causing the File menu problem, since I'd like to change as few of the settings on my desktop computer as possible in order to correct the problem?

There is zero practical sense to relocate the Wealth-Lab configuration files. They do not consume disk space. But since this is uncharted territory, you're welcome to experiment at your own risk.

I'm not relocating any of the Wealth-Lab configuration files. They are all in AppData. My assumption is that somehow one of these files got corrupted, which is what was causing my problem.

I'd prefer not to lose my existing WealthLabConfig.txt unless I need to. Unfortunately, that is the file that seems to be causing the problem.

If you reliably determined that some configuration file(s) appears broken, causing this problem, please get rid of it at your earliest possible convenience so that Wealth-Lab could recreate it from scratch.

WealthLabConfig.txt was the problem. I replaced that file on my desktop computer with the new one generated by the new installation of Wealth-Lab Pro on my laptop, and the File menu works the way it should again.

The File menu was acting as if a Strategy Window was not in focus. I'm not sure how Config.txt could affect that, but if you have a copy of the old one I'd like to get a look at it. Please attach to a support ticket if you wish to follow up. Thanks.

The problem with Panache's WealthLabConfig.txt was that the Function toolbar was turned off. This seems to be a new bug. Should someone experience this odd issue, the workaround is simple: check the "Function toolbar" checkbox in the View menu and the Save/Save As... buttons will appear.

Our Open Issues list has been updated to reflect the problem.
