I've had periodic issues with the quotes window not updating. Streaming charts are working but the quote window sometimes stops.

Also, is it possible to have triggers added to a quote window persist between sessions? or is there a better way to set alerts?

There is: by saving into a Workspace.

There's something wrong with your keyboard too: Auo-Trading, Quotes Windo. ;) On a serious note, what streaming provider is active?

Eugene, even with Workspaces I don't think it's possible to persist alerts between sessions. Since it's an EOD tool, the idea is that strategies will generate new alerts for the next session.

If the idea is to get Alerts for discretionary trades when a price reaches a specified level. You can do the following.

1. Create a file called DiscretionaryAlerts.txt and put it in your user \Data\ folder.
(e.g. C:\Users\WindowsLogin\AppData\Roaming\Fidelity Investments\WealthLabDev\1.0.0.0\Data\)

2. In the file, add the symbol, price, and signal name (optional) in rows. Separate each field with a tab.

3. Then just run this script each day (on any symbol) to generate the Alerts, which you can select and send to Quotes.

One other suggestion on the quotes window would be to allow the trigger threshold to exceed 100%. At times (particularly if you are trading larger size) to be able to have price exceed your limit price so that at a minimum you get a partial fill when the order is submitted. Better yet if you had some level 2 data you could have the order submitted only when there are enough offers/bid's to fill your order.

Just a thought.

Hi guys,

I have also experienced issues with the quote window not updating...actually it's only some of the securities on my quote window not updating. Is this issue on Wealth-Lab's side or maybe Fidelity's vendor? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

Which particular securities? Some particular time of day? How much does it last? Is network connectivity OK (have you tried temporarily switching to a backup ISP?)

Having the same problem. I'm paper trading and today had 334 alerts posted into the Quotes (Paper Trading) pane. The alerts were posted to the Quotes pane by selecting all alerts in the Strategy Monitor's Alerts pane and selecting "Monitor in Quotes Window". All alerts stayed current until, at 3:32 PM, I "Auto-Removed" all symbols that had achieved 100% threshold. From that time on, some symbols stopped updating while most others updated correctly until the trading day ended. A few symbols that stopped updating include ISRG, RAX, OXY, TRIP, DISH, CDNS, and MON. A few symbols that continued updating correctly include CTRP, SDRL, JOY, UTX, UA, APC, and GME. I'm using Fidelity as my data supplier.

The charts I have running in the same workspace continue updating correctly, even for the symbols that have stopped updating in the Quotes pane.

Sherm,

Thank you for the detailed report. Is the issue reproducible or was it a one-time event?

Patrick,

In addition to questions in my post #7, could you also recall the point(s) when the Quote window stopped updating? Did you do something like manually adding/removing a symbol, or did an Auto-Remove like sdbens20?

Eugene,

I think so but will confirm Monday afternoon.

I first noticed some quotes not updating last Wednesday. Thursday, I found that I could cause some symbols to stop updating after auto-removing unwanted symbols for the Quotes pane. Friday, I first removed unwanted alerts in the Strategy Monitor's Alerts pane before sending the remaining alerts to the Quotes window. Friday, no alerts in the Quotes pane were removed by any method and none of the alerts stopped updating the entire trading session.

Finally, I believe that removing symbols from the Quotes pane either by removing one by one manually or by auto-removing causes some symbols to stop updating. This too will be confirmed Monday.

Eugene,

Today at 10:21 AM, I moved approx. 300 selected alerts from the Strategy Monitor's Alerts pane to the Quotes (Paper Trading) Quotes pane. All quotes remained current with no problems.

At 12:01, I right-clicked on symbol CDNS and removed it from the Quotes pane. All remaining symbols continued updating correctly until 1:50 PM.

At 1:50, I Auto-removed approximately 19 symbols and then deactivated Auto-Remove. At 3:01, 15 symbols had not updated since 1:50. Some of these symbols were FDO, EMC, FLR, VMW, STX, and CREE.

At 3:01, I block removed approx 100 more symbols by highlighting the selected block, right-clicking, and selecting "Remove selected items." FDO, EMC, FLR, VMW, STX, and CREE continued to hold their 1:50 PM quote values into the close of trading.

Wednesday, I'll first remove a big block of symbols by selecting the block, right-clicking, and selecting "Remove selected items." Non-updating symbols, if any, will be noted. Then, after a few hours, an "Auto-remove" will be performed.

I actually run Fidelity Quotes everyday with Auto-Remove selected from the start. I cannot remember ever having a problem.

Starting today I'll begin with Auto-Remove disabled and then enable it after some alerts are triggered. If there's a bug, hopefully I'll see it too.

There was nothing magical about that pattern for me today. All quotes still running 25 minutes after selecting/deselecting Auto-Remove.

Still okay after another round of 10 Alerts, and then clicking Auto-Remove. How about you today?

Today at 9 AM, I moved approx. 300 selected alerts from the Strategy Monitor's Alerts pane to the Quotes (Paper Trading) Quotes pane. All quotes remained current until I randomly deleted approx. 70 alerts from the Quotes pane of the Quotes window. This removal was at 11:01.

At 12:06 PM, KMB, ADM, FLR, UPS, IP, and JOY had failed to update in the 11:01-12:06 period. I noticed that all these stocks were up for the day and had entered the market at the open. All trades were based upon the TASC 2007-04 - Adjusted ROC (Luoma, Nikkinen) strategy. Other stocks (TXN, ETN, and IBM) using this strategy, entering at the open and up for the day continued updating correctly after the 70 symbol removal.

I'd like to be able to duplicate the problem, but I've been using the Quotes tool every day since January and haven't seen this occur. That tells me that unless there's a specific action that makes it fail consistently, it's going to be a difficult bug to duplicate and fix. Further, even if it could be duplicated, we'd have to wait for 6.8 (end of year) for a fix.

My suggestion is that "if it hurts, don't do it." If Quotes list is important for your trading, turn on Auto-Remove from the beginning and don't do other manipulations that appear to cause the failure. Meanwhile, of course it's good to keep trying to identify the problem.

What do you mean by "entered the market at the open"? That the Alerts had triggered at the open?

This is a Market order strategy, and market orders are immediately triggered in the Quotes tool. I don't understand how or why you'd use the Quotes tool for this strategy.

I'll try deleting groups of items today. It may help to use the same 300 instruments that you're using. Are they from the S&P 500?

Quotes ceasing to update for a few symbols after deleting others from the Quotes (Paper Trading) pane is a consistent outcome for me.

Agreed. I now transfer only alerts that I don't expect to delete during the trading day. Using this approach is an OK workaround for me.

I'm considering making a trade if this strategy and a second strategy both issue alerts in the Quotes Alerts pane. The second strategy issues an alert if a "Limit" price has been reached. Please let me know if there's a better way.

Most of the symbols are shown below. They are all stocks having weekly options. I don't know if they are all from the SP500.

AAPL ACN ADM AET AFSI AGU AIG AKAM ALXN AMGN AMT AMZN ANF AOL APA APC BA BAX BBBY BBY BHI BIDU BIIB BK BMY BP BRCM BX C CAT CBS CELG CF CHK CL CMCSA CME CMG CMI COF COH COP COST CREE CRM CTRP CTSH CVX DAL DD DDD DE DECK DG DIA DIS DISH DOW DVN EA EBAY EEM EMC EOG EQIX ESRX ETN EXPE FB FCX FDO FDX FEYE FFIV FLR FOSL FSLR GE GILD GM GMCR GME GOOGL GPS GS GT HAL HCA HD HES HFC HLF HON HPQ HUM IBM ICPT IOC IP ISRG IWM JNJ JNPR JOY JPM KMB KO KORS KSS LINE LLY LNG LNKD LOW LULU LVS M MA MCD MDLZ MDT MET MMM MO MON MOS MPC MRK MRO MS MSFT MYGN NAV NE NFLX NKE NOV NTAP NUE NUS ORCL OXY PANW PCLN PCYC PFE PG PM POT PSX QCOM QCOR QIHU QLIK RAX REGN SBUX SCTY SDRL SINA SLB SNDK SODA SPB SPWR SPY SSYS STX SU SWKS SYY T TAP TGT TIF TLT TMUS TOL TRIP TSLA TSO TXN UA UNH UNP UPS USB UTX V VLO VMW VRTX VZ WAG WDC WFC WYNN X XOM YELP YHOO YNDX YUM Z ZTS

Given my workaround, I don't think this bug deserves much more attention.

Thanks,

Sherm

I think it still deserves attention. There's obviously a problem for you when you remove alerts, but for whatever reason, it's not happening for everyone. I tried again with the 205 symbols you've just provided, deleted dozens of tickers, and the rest continued updating normally.

Getting back to your comment in #16, what do you mean by "entered the market at the open"? That the Alerts had triggered at the open?

Finally, which O.S. do you use? It's pretty rare, but I recall that we we're able to pin one problem on Windows Vista.

No need to answer. Looking at my last Quotes test that I ran with a dip-buyer strategy, I duplicated the problem. Here's the setup:

1. Send Alerts to Quotes tool. Auto-Remove should be disabled.
2. Some of the Alerts need to be Market orders and therefore trigger on the open (or immediately if you do this during market hours). This is why I would never see this - there really isn't a point to using the Quote tool with market orders, except for monitoring.
3. The key is now to delete some of the other quote items, but not the symbols with the market orders.
4. The market order symbols no longer update after removing (1 or more?) items.

Of course this won't affect trading since the market orders should have already been placed, but it would be interesting to know if the quote stream for the "market order symbols" is affected in a chart or for another limit/stop trigger item.
